Capitol Connection- Legislative Update from District 34
Monday, December 1th 2008 @ 5:06pm
Dear Neighbor,

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving last week. Even with increasingly difficult times it is important to realize the reasons we celebrate each holiday- and it is not always about the food and presents.

In the upcoming weeks I will be traveling to Tallahassee for committee meetings and possibility a Special Session to address Florida's decreasing tax revenues and budget. It will not be an easy legislative session for anyone-but legislators weren't elected to make easy decisions.

Look for an announcement in the near future on a District 34 Town Hall pre-session meeting and information on the Seminole County Legislative Delegation hearing can be found below.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions or concerns.

Warm Regards,
Chris

Interns will help staff with various legislative responsibilities and will not be required to work set hours.

Anyone interested in applying should email a copy of their resume to Carolyn Johnson, carolyn.johnson@myfloridahouse.gov.

State website created to help teenage drivers

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles just launched TakeTheWheel.net, a site created by teens to share information with other teens across the state. This site allows teenage drivers to share driving experiences, test their driving knowledge and find other useful driving information.

"Phishing"
By now, you probably are aware that email scam artists have moved on to something called "phishing." It is especially important to be aware of this scam during the holidays.

"Phishing" is when someone sends you an email that looks so authentic, you are inclined to believe it is true. In fact, the emails look incredibly authentic; they have the company logo imbedded in them, and the Website they ask you to go to might even take your user ID and password.
And that is the sender's intent: To capture your user ID and password and use it to withdraw money and run up your credit card bills.
Here are some helpful tips:
DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. Instead, call your bank or credit card company and ask if they sent the email.
NEVER click on the email link to take you to a banking or credit card Website. Use the URL you always have used to navigate to a banking or credit card Website.
Never transact banking or online shopping business in a public place such as an airport, Starbucks or other place if you are signed on to their "free wireless" network.

If you are using a publicly-accessible computer: Remember to close the browser all the way when you are done, no matter what you were doing on the browser.
